Villarreal defender Juan Foyth has told AS the Spanish side are ready to dig deep against Manchester United.

The Spaniards know they have a tough night ahead of them this Wednesday at Old Trafford and know the home side will be under sustained pressure.

But Villarreal is understandably convinced of his defensive skills.

They held Real Madrid in a 0-0 draw at the weekend, held United in the Europa League final and recently played a Supercup draw with Chelsea.

However, Foyth insists Villarreal go to Manchester United to try to win.

The Argentine defender told AS: “Obviously these teams like Madrid, United, Chelsea or Atlético are very competitive, very complete and one of the best in the world, we all know that.

“But the idea is to keep working with the same humility, understanding the games and knowing how to suffer when you need to suffer.

“And we’re leaving with the desire to get the three points and position ourselves in the Champions League.”

Hard resistance

Villarreal have already shown United that they are not a pushover. The Europa League final is fresh in your memory and that will inspire confidence.

Also United’s loss to Aston Villa at the weekend was exactly what they would have wished for.

Villarreal have struggled to win games this season, but they have also been hard to beat. Her draw against Real Madrid showed her resilience.

The Spaniards hope striker Gerard Moreno will recover from injury in recent games. His continued absence would be a blow and a great help to United in light of our own defensive injuries.
