Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick last night.

But the night’s biggest news regarding United came with Victor Lindelof’s appearance for Sweden.

United rely on Lindelof to lead the defense, while Harry Maguire is injured and Raphael Varane is injured for France.

Back as a captain

Lindelof missed Sweden’s game over the weekend as he stayed in Manchester for the birth of his child.

He returned last night as the captain for his country, leaving United nervous about whether he would get through unharmed.

Fortunately, like Eric Bailly, Lindelof made it through the 90 minutes for Ivory Coast the day before without incident.

Lindelof and Bailly are expected to play center-backs at Manchester United in Leicester over the weekend.

United star Lindelof had a relatively easy night against a Greek side who beat Sweden in the last month’s clash between the two teams.

Sweden won 2-0 with goals from Emil Forsberg and Alexander Isak.

Lindelof didn’t need to tackle a single tackle or interception, and won three aerial battles. Greece hit the woodwork with an effort, but Sweden remained largely unmolested.

Leadership skills required

Lindelof is Sweden’s captain and Manchester United will need him to show his leadership skills over the weekend.

With Varane out and Maguire likely to be absent too, Lindelof is leaned on as United’s key defender.

Eric Bailly needs to step up too, but as a player who was a regular last season and has played seven games in all club-level competitions this season, Lindelof is considered the more reliable center-back of the two.

Leicester is always a threat when Jamie Vardy is ahead and Lindelof has to defend well.

But the most important thing is first. Lindelof must be available. His successful performance for Sweden last night showed that he is ready.

Lindelof informed the club’s website in August that his longstanding back injury had subsided. United needs him 100 percent this weekend.
