How it goes:

  • Go to Settings> Bluetooth.
  • Tap the info icon next to the AirPods name.
  • Choose Name.
  • Edit the name and tap Done, then tap Back.

Always wanted to watch a movie with a friend on your iPad, but using the speakers doesn’t make for the most satisfying cinematic experience?

Well, if your friend has AirPods or even compatible Beats headphones, audio sharing is a great alternative for devices running iOS 13 or later.

How it goes:

  • Open your friend’s AirPods near your iPhone or iPad.
  • From the map on your screen, select Temporarily Share Audio.

This will share your device’s audio without linking the earbuds to your Apple ID. You can also set up audio sharing from the Control Center.

The Live Listen feature helps improve your hearing, useful in noisy environments or when you need to hear from a distance. Parents can also use this feature as a makeshift baby monitor.

How it goes:

  • Go to Settings> Control Center.
  • Tap Customize Controls.
  • Tap the “+” next to Listen to add it to Control Center.
  • In the Control Center, tap the ear icon.
  • In the pop-up, tap Live Listen to turn it on.

Siri, Play My Spotify Mix – Enjoy your favorite music

If your device has iOS 13 or higher, you can get Siri to play from Spotify.

How it goes:

  • Activate Siri and say “Play song on Spotify”.
  • This will open a command prompt for Siri to access Spotify.
  • Choose yes.

You need to mention Spotify in your commands. Currently, you can’t ask Siri to play podcasts from Spotify, but the following commands will work:

  • Play Daily Mix 1 on Spotify!
  • Play the artist name with Spotify!
  • Play album names on Spotify!
  • Play song names on Spotify!
  • Play the latest song by artist name on Spotify!
  • Play playlist names on Spotify!

Use an earbud: improve battery life

You might think using just one earbud is strange, but consider how you usually use one ear to answer the phone. If you set microphone usage to Automatic, you can answer calls with just one earbud and save battery life. It’s also ideal when you need to be aware of your surroundings.

Announcing Calls: Be on your best behavior

If you are answering calls with a song in a happy mood or are stuck in traffic jams in anger on the M60, this setting may save you from embarrassment in front of important callers. Your iPhone can announce the contact name through your AirPods and even through your car’s bluetooth system.

How it goes:

  • Go to Settings> Phone.
  • Tap Announce Calls.
  • Tap Headphones only or Headphones & Auto.

Siri, read my messages – save my time

Enjoy hands-free calling when using an Apple device with iOS 13.2 or higher.

How it goes:

  • Go to Settings> Notifications.
  • Turn on Announce Messages with Siri.

You can also decide which messages you want Siri to read. This feature also works with Powerbeats Pro and Beats Solo Pro headphones.

Lost and Found: Find a lost AirPod

The Find My iPhone app can also be used to find lost AirPods, just connect them to the app. In order to play sound on them, each individual earbud must be connected.

How it goes:

  • Open the Find My iPhone app.
  • In the list, tap the name of your AirPod.
  • The app shows your last known location and can also play a sound at full volume.

Better control over the controls

You can change the tap controls on your AirPods to manage music playback. You can even set the controls differently depending on whether you’re using them with your iPhone or Mac computer.

How it goes:

  • Go to Settings> Bluetooth.
  • Tap the info icon next to your AirPods name.
  • Tap the earbud that you want to customize the controls for and make the changes.

AirPods Pro: Additional tips for professionals

Earplug fit test: Tight fit for additional comfort

The AirPods Pro addresses a major issue that most AirPods users face. poorly fitting earbuds. The earbuds come in a variety of sizes and there is an earbud fit test to determine which is best for you.

How it goes:

  • Attach one of the earplugs.
  • Go to Settings> Bluetooth.
  • Tap the AirPods’ info icon.
  • Tap Earplug Fit Test.
  • On the test screen, tap Next.
  • Tap the Play button to hear a short audio clip.
  • If the fit is good, the app will give a Good Seal rating. If it doesn’t, adjust or change the tips and repeat the process.

Better sound: Fine tuned music audio

If your Apple device is equipped with iOS 14 or higher, you can optimize the sound quality for your AirPods Pro.

How it goes:

  • Go to Settings> Accessibility.
  • Select your AirPods.
  • Tap Audio Accessibility Settings.
  • Turn on headphone adjustments.
  • Adjust the sound with the settings or through the custom audio setup.

These settings are also available for AirPods 2 and compatible Beats headphones.

Noise canceling: switch off unwanted interference

The AirPods Pro has several noise cancellation modes. The active noise cancellation mode completely shields you from the outside world. The transparency mode allows some external noise to keep you alert and aware of your surroundings.

You can switch between modes by long pressing the stem of the earbuds. Alternatively, you can manage it through your iPhone.

How it goes:

  • Go to Control Center> Audio Controls.
  • Tap the noise reduction icon.
  • Choose a mode or turn it off.

You can also switch modes via Bluetooth:

  • Go to Settings> Bluetooth.
  • Tap the info icon next to your AirPods Pro’s name.
  • Under Noise Reduction, select a mode.

The AirPods Pro has an immersive spatial audio function. This feature is available on devices with iOS 14 or higher and AirPods Pro with firmware version 3A283 or higher.

How it goes:

  • Go to Settings> Bluetooth.
  • Select the info icon next to your AirPods.
  • To test Spatial Audio, tap See & hear how it works.
  • Tap “Enable for supported videos” to enable Spatial Audio.
