Edinson Cavani ends the season in style at Manchester United.

The Uruguay international has been sensational lately, scoring two goals and fielding three in the Europa League semi-finals against Roma.

This was followed by one goal in the preliminary round and two in his last three Premier League games.

In short, Cavani makes up for lost time. And United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be desperate that he will stay beyond the summer.

Here are three reasons the 34-year-old should extend his United contract for another year.

The fan factor

Can you imagine Cavani scoring a goal at Stretford End?

The roar of fans is something United’s number seven has not seen at Old Trafford. And it would be a great shame if he left without that sound ringing in his ears.

As good as Cavani has been lately, he would only be better if the United fans cheered him on.

Unfinished business

Cavani might leave now because he knows it’s a good job. A Europa League final seems almost inevitable and finishing second isn’t a bad thing given United’s recent fights.

But it is better to come. United should face a serious title challenge next season. You will be back in the Champions League too.

This season’s competition was over before it really started for Cavani. He took time to build his fitness in England and didn’t score in four games. He also missed the competitive game against RB Leipzig in one fell swoop.

It would be very different if he stayed at United for another year.

An even stronger United

If Cavani stays, United won’t have to replace him. That would free up significant resources to attract a much-needed right-winger.

At the top of that list is likely Jadon Sancho, who remains linked to United (MEN).

Imagine the England international delivering ammunition for Cavani to fill his boots. They could be fatal together.

Sancho has forged a good partnership with a striker at the other end of his career in Erling Haaland.

Could he go to United now and play – if only briefly – with one of the best strikers in recent history?
