If Jadon Sancho moves to England this summer, Manchester United are hoping to beat some fierce rivals against his signature.

As reported on the Manchester Evening News, United remain interested in the winger. However, Liverpool has long been linked to Sancho.

The two will compete against each other this weekend with the hopes of the Champions League hanging in the balance. And that’s an interesting subplot when United hosts on Sunday.

United’s chances of signing Sancho were previously tied to participation in Europe’s top competition. This could also be the case at Liverpool this time.

If both teams finish in the top four, the 21-year-old’s decision could be more difficult. But if United win this weekend it could be the final nail in the coffin for their opponents’ qualifying hopes.

There are other teams that United could ask for Sancho’s signature. However, it would be a huge benefit to make sure that one of the most likely players isn’t in the Champions League next season.

United may no longer be a realistic challenge for the title. But there are many reasons to win on Sunday.

Second place is not yet secured, boastful rights are not to be underestimated and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be desperate to keep his team in good shape.

Summer focus

United has a great summer ahead of them. You’re excruciatingly close to having a title-winning team.

One key area they need to strengthen is the right wing – step forward, Sancho.

The England international may have had a disappointing campaign by his own high standards. But he still has 12 goals and 16 assists and he would vastly improve some of United’s other great options.

United may have to pay a lot to get it. But a bidding war with one of their biggest rivals could be avoided if only one of the two dined at Europe’s top table.
