Anthony Martial’s agent has stated that his client would like to leave Manchester United during the January transfer window.

After tough talks between Martial and Ralf Rangnick, Sevilla reportedly made a loan offer for the French but he failed.

That door in La Liga seems to be closing as Spanish newspaper AS reports that Sevilla are now interested in an alternate striker – Bologna’s Riccardo Orsolini.

The journalist Fabrizio Romano told the YouTube channel Five from Rio Ferdinand why United is having difficulties relieving Martial – and it depends on the finances.

“The main problem was with some of the training methods,” Romano said more generally of players who are unhappy at United. “With Ole’s things and also with Ralf Rangnick’s things.

“It happens like that, but the other problem is that in football today it’s not easy to sell players.

“We can mention Anthony Martial. He wants to go, we know he wants to go, his agent said publicly after seven years at Manchester United. But it’s also fair to say that United wants to pay their entire salary and a loan fee.

“For example, Sevilla, who turned to United, cannot pay that money. Then the decision is really slow, the player is not happy and you have a problem because there is no positive energy in the locker room. “

United had to decide whether it wasn’t worth getting Martial’s entire wages back to loan him out and potentially add interest in him and his market value if he did well in Seville.

An example would have been Jesse Lingard, who has endlessly increased his standing and reputation at West Ham over the past season.

However, United still failed to capitalize on it and is expected to lose him for free at the end of the season.

The club have been holding Martial tight for what it looks like but that means he’s still at the club but apparently not a viable option for Rangnick, and as Romano says, that can’t be good for the dressing room.

It remains to be seen whether the stance softens on opening the window but if Sevilla signs Orsolini that door will close and there aren’t many clubs in world football that can pay the salaries necessary to sign United players.

It could be that because of his demands, United missed an opportunity to dump an unlucky player and bring him back into the shop window, but time will tell.
