Manchester United announced an agreement to sign Raphael Varane on July 27th. He has not yet arrived in England as he has questions and says goodbye in Madrid while United takes care of all the formalities for his arrival.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had stated that Varane’s visa had to be regulated in line with Brexit, along with all the arrangements for the defense attorney’s quarantine.

Now there is a fixed date for Varane’s arrival. Fabrizio Romano reports that Varane will fly to Manchester on Monday.

The journalist adds that Varane is “buzzing” to start at Manchester United.

Raphaël Varane plans to fly from Madrid to Manchester on Monday. He has to go into quarantine – medically, and the deal is slated to close next week. 🔴 #MUFC

I was told that Raphaël wants to “sign as soon as possible” until June 2025 + option until 2026. #Varans

When will Varane make his first appearance?

Manchester United’s final pre-season friendly will be played against Everton on Saturday 7 August at Old Trafford.

It is unclear whether Varane’s quarantine will be completed by then or whether he will be judged fit enough to show up. He did a couple of sessions with Real Madrid last week.

In addition, United will be on Saturday 14. The team’s lack of preparation for the EM 2020 stars is not ideal.

Varane could go straight to the line-up. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are in a similar situation as they haven’t played a single minute in preparation.

The Frenchman is talented enough to jump straight into United’s line-up against Leeds. But it wouldn’t be a complete surprise either to hold out and start the very first game for Maguire and Lindelof with Varane settling down on and off the pitch.
