This is an important development for Manchester United as the club looks to strengthen itself for 2021/22.

Varane has been United’s main defensive transfer target from the start and one deal is almost complete. It’s very un-Manchester United.

United are taking advantage of a few situations to close this deal.

Varane only has one year left with Real Madrid. Real also need money for their own transfer goals now and next summer, while Varane’s mentor Zinedine Zidane has left the club.

Everything is perfectly coordinated for United to attract the world-class defender they need to partner with Harry Maguire.
