Torres was quoted by TMW after Villarreal’s goalless draw with Arsenal which resulted in a 2-1 aggregate win.

He said, “Tonight I cry tears of emotion instead of disappointment. Villarreal lost a lot of chances in the semi-finals, but now we’re finally in the final. We made it! These are exciting moments. Everyone deserves it: the club, the fans, the president, last year’s team, all of us. It’s time to have fun, but it’s important to prepare for the finals right away as this is a historic opportunity.

“Now Manchester? We’re going to face a great team that is sure to make things very complicated for us. We didn’t want both European finals to be entirely English. It’s fantastic that Villarreal will represent Spanish football in a European final. “

Torres’ Villarreal did not concede a single goal from open play in the semi-finals, with Arsenal’s only goal coming from the penalty spot.

This underscores the defensive quality of Torres and Villarreal and he is certainly very keen to take his chance. Any aspirations he has toward United are firmly set aside.

Scouting opportunity

United’s coaching team have a chance to rule Torres firsthand in Gdansk.

Hopefully he’s not having a very good game and he’s got a good job from all of the season that United can judge by that too.

United also have to consider whether the club still needs a new center-back in Torres’ price range after Eric Bailly renews his contract with Old Trafford.

Most likely it will be Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof defending for United, while Torres on the other end will have to try to knock out a well-formed Edinson Cavani. If he can, he might be worth shooting at.
