Nicky Butt left Manchester United after working with the academy for nine years last month and it was a shock.

After all, it was only February when Butt stood on the sidelines in Old Trafford and the first team coaching team was quarantined due to Covid concerns.

The athlete reported that Butt quit because he was frustrated with the way the director of the football hiring process was handled and told him about it. He went looking for a new challenge and a fresh start.

Now that Ed Woodward is about to resign, Butt couldn’t hide his joy.

Butt’s post was liked by both of the Neville brothers, his former Manchester United teammates.

It also shows the depth of Butt’s discomfort towards Woodward.

The fact that a club legend feels this way despite working so long under Woodward shows how unpopular the outgoing managing director is by the footballers behind the scenes at the club.

It’s just one more reason to be happy that Woodward is leaving, as if eight years of failure weren’t reason enough to celebrate it already.
