Nemanja Matic prepares to return for Manchester United pre-season.

Matic retired from international football even before Serbia missed qualifying for Euro 2020 after losing on penalties to Scotland.

The United midfielder is one of the few first-team players who can return to pre-season in early July. And he’s preparing for it.

Matic has posted a training video that runs up and down a pitch in a 36-degree heat in Serbia. He wants to be in top shape for his return to Carrington.

Matic isn’t the only United player preparing for his return. Anthony Martial was pictured at a gym doing some exercise as well. The Frenchman is also expected at the same time as Matic, and United will want to test his fitness after a knee injury prevented him from playing at Euro 2020.

Midfield ace Matic, 32, uses the off-season productively. He announced last week how he acquired his UEFA B coaching license.

Hopefully Matic can see a few more surprises at United next season. If he stays.

He took a step backwards last season and defensive midfield is the position most Manchester United fans want from the club. There are currently no clear plans for this.

Until that changes, Matic is needed. It’s good to see how he pushes himself to improve and get back at his best.
