Marcus Rashford led England in the country’s final pre-Euro 2020 warm-up game yesterday.

Rashford scored the winner with a penalty in a 1-0 win over Romania at Riverside Stadium.

Jack Grealish and James Ward-Prowse both run their clubs and started the game.

But Gareth Southgate chose Rashford to lead the squad and Rashford’s strike extended a formidable record for Manchester United.

7 – Manchester United have met seven different players for England (Beckham, Charlton, Ferdinand, Maguire, Rashford, Robson and Rooney) in a game they started as captain, more than twice as many as any other club team. Pedigree.

He joined the ranks of United players to score for England after starting out as captain.

It is an impressive achievement for a striker who is only 23 years old and underscores the respect Southgate shows him.

He has also been the United captain on occasion, most notably in the EFL Cup semi-final against Manchester City in January 2020.

England’s captain will be a long time coming

We wrote last June that Rashford was a future English captain.

Rashford’s out-of-the-field work to tackle child food poverty makes him a leader who has mobilized and united the nation more than any other recent politician.

He is a natural leader with the talent to be a fixture on this English team for many years to come.

Rashford is a role model for fans to look up to and should be on the table when it comes time for Kane to hand over the armband.

Of course, Rashford lived by responsibility yesterday and won the game for his team.

It shouldn’t be the last time he’ll lead his country out.
