Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United will have a big impact in the years to come.

Ronaldos will inspire United’s youngsters at the academy who are both desperate to meet him and even more keen to get the chance to play and train by his side.

One of them is young midfielder Sam Mather, who helped Manchester United U18 win their first win of the season on Saturday.

Inspired by Ronaldo

Mather scored United’s second goal after catching a pass from Manni Norkett and shaving his shot over the goalkeeper.

After scoring a goal, he ran behind the gate, then turned and celebrated with his arms outstretched and chest inflated, imitating Cristiano Ronaldo.

It’s not the first time young players have shown their admiration for the stars of the first team.

Last season striker Charlie McNeill scored against Leeds and responded with Edinson Cavani’s legendary archery celebration.

Great week for United’s young players

After a heavy loss to Liverpool last weekend, this was the perfect way for Manchester United’s young U18 side to respond.

Daniel Gore got United going at his first start to the season after an assist from Marc Jurado with a well-scored goal.

Both Gore and Sam Mather made their first calls to England’s U18 squad this week and their goals against Leeds have shown why.

The game also saw a debut for new U18 signature Ethan Ennis, a summer signing from Liverpool.

Ennis looked radiant and almost scored in the first minute after running through midfield and shooting just over the bar.

In midfield, Finley McAllister was one of the outstanding players, United prepared a counterattack with a crunchy duel to score the first goal.

Kobbie Mainoo’s added-time goal was his first for the United Under-18s after making his debut for the team last year. The young winger will hope to carry on and get stronger and stronger.

United’s next U18 game will be played at home against Middlesbrough on September 11th.
