Manchester United’s academy teams are quietly preparing for the coming season.

The U18 and U23 completed a training camp in Scotland last week.

Both played friendlies before the season and scored wins in both.

U18 wins

The United U18s faced Hearts Academy and won 3-0. Finley McAllister, Ethan Williams and Manni Norkett scored the goals.

McAllister and Williams are usually part of the U16s, while Norkett was among the 11 youngsters who will advance to the U18 level in the coming season. McAllister is also one to watch out for, as he made one appearance for the U18 league last season when he was only 14.

With several players under the age of 23 who have been accepted into the first team, younger players also have the opportunity to move up an age group in the preseason.

The team was led by Marc Jurado, who signed from Barcelona last year. Jurado expressed in a post on Instagram how proud he is to be the captain of the team. The right-back has already made his U23 debut and could play for both teams in the coming season.

U23 victory

The Manchester United U23 team took on the Hibernian U23 at the weekend.

The team recorded a 4-1 victory. Omari Forson, Charlie McNeill (penalty), Dillon Hoogewerf and Charlie McCann were on the scorers list.

Forson’s goal was the choice of the pile. The Hibernian website reported: “Forson picked up the ball from 25 yards and rolled a terrific shot into the top corner with his left foot.”

The young attacker played at the end of the season after being promoted to the U23 and is a player who should keep an eye on the season ahead.

Next up

The United U23s will be in action against Stalybridge Celtic on Tuesday evening at 7.45pm. Keep in mind that this is essentially last season’s U18 side as players like Ethan Galbraith, Shola Shoretire and Hannibal are currently in the first team roster.

It’s possible that one or two of these could play against Brentford the next night at Old Trafford.

A special plaque will be unveiled during the game in honor of former coach Bert Whalley. He was a coach who lost his life in the Munich plane disaster and represented both United and Stalybridge Celtic in his playing career.
