Manchester United transfer target Benjamin Sesko has added to his resume with a pre-season goal against Liverpool.

Sesko scored the opening goal in a friendly match between Red Bull Salzburg and Jurgen Klopp’s side, putting his side 1-0 up in the 35th minute.

The Mail this week reported Manchester United are keen on a possible move for Sesko, although Salzburg have set his price at £55 million.

Sesko is a tall, quick striker who is already a Slovenia international at the age of 19, and he says he has been compared to Erling Haaland by his teammates.

Sesko scores v Liverpool

This friendly match was Liverpool’s last pre-season friendly before the Community Shield and they fielded a relatively strong line-up, albeit without Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.

Joe Gomez and Ibrahim Konate started in central defence, with summer signing Darwin Nunez starting up front.

Sesko played a neat-one two around the Liverpool defense on a counter attack and swept the ball into the back of the net with a low first time shot to put his side 1-0 up.

It was an impressive goal in a high profile friendly which will have encouraged teams interested in his services, and that won’t just be Manchester United.

The fee Salzburg are seeking is a high one, and United’s decision to pay up or not will depend on a few other factors.

The Cristiano Ronaldo situation needs resolving, with The Times reporting he still wants to leave.

It will also depend on whether United move for Antony or not. The two players are different in profile, but will both require high fees, while the club are still looking to add another midfielder.

United are also hoping to sell a few more players and raise funds for incoming transfers.

If Sesko is a player the club are really interested in buying, then he did his chances no harm at all with his strike against Liverpool.
