Manchester United target Cody Gakpo maintained his impressive start to the new season by scoring a brace in PSV Eindhoven’s 4-1 Eredivisie win vs FC Emmen.

But despite the former Ajax manager being keen to reunite with his fellow former Amsterdam starlet Antony, a move for the talented Brazilian is looking increasingly unlikely to come to fruition this summer.
With Anthony Martial being ruled out of our Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion and uncertainty still surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, the lack of depth in the forward areas has reared his head before the season has even started.

United’s new manager remains intent on bolstering his midfield and forward options, and the Mirror report that the 52-year-old wants his countryman Gakpo.
With the Reds seemingly being priced out of a move for Antony this summer, attentions have turned to Gakpo who Ten Hag has seen up close and personal during his time in the Eredivisie.
The report says that Gakpo would cost around £40 million, which is about half of what Ten Hag’s old side wanted for Antony this summer.
With former Reds striker Ruud van Nistelrooy in charge of PSV, a huge bearing on whether the Dutch giants will likely sanction the departure of their prized asset will depend on whether they reach the Champions League group stages.

PSV face a third-round play-off home clash against Monaco on Tuesday night after drawing the first leg 1-1.
The 23-year-old, who has been capped seven times for Netherlands, has started the season in scintillating form.
He has three goals from as many games this season and scored twice in PSV’s Eredivisie opener.
Gakpo’s first goal was a clinical left-footed finish at the near post and his second was a Thierry Henry-esque finish into the far bottom corner – both of his goals came from runs down the left channel.

Although playing from the left is Gakpo’s favored position he also has the versatility to play anywhere across the forward line.
Having scored a goal and provided two assists in PSV’s 5-3 win against Ajax in the Johan Cruijff Schaal last weekend, PSV’s number 11 now has five goal involvements from his first three matches of the 2022-23 season.
Last season he scored 21 goals and provided 15 assists from 47 matches and he scored the winner against Ten Hag’s Ajax in last season’s KNVB Beker final.
He’s one of the most sought after forwards across European football and his electric start to the new campaign may have grabbed Ten Hag’s attention.
