Manchester United are set to miss out on Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

Kamara is a free agent, having decided to leave the French club when his contract expires in June.

Fabrizio Romano reports Kamara has decided to sign with Premier League side Aston Villa and the final details are being finalised.

United miss out on Kamara

A move to sign Boubacar Kamara would have made a lot of sense. The 22-year-old has been a consistent performer in Ligue 1 for the past two seasons.

Available on a free, Kamara would have strengthened Manchester United in the position where the squad is weakest, even before Nemanja Matic’s departure.

The Athletic reported in December that United were monitoring Kamara’s situation.

But Fabrizio Romano tld his Here We Go podcast that even when Marseille offered Kamara to United at the transfer deadline, the Red Devils turned down the chance, signing nobody.

Time will tell if missing out on Kamara is a decision United regret. He could be a shrewd addition for Aston Villa.

In Ten Hag we trust

It’s really impossible to judge this from Manchester United’s point of view, until we see what the squad looks like at the end of the transfer window.

New boss Erik ten Hag will be very aware of the midfield needs reinforcements, and will be making plans.

He may have better players lined up than Kamara, even if they are more costly. Ultimately we have to trust he has a plan in place, and will make some strong additions. Manchester United’s midfield needs it.

Dan is still wondering what would have happened if United had kept Juan Veron…

Early transfer would be a decisive way to kick off Ten Hag era
