Manchester United fans have been getting the chance to check out new signing Tyrell Malacia during the club’s pre-season tour.

Malacia featured in all four pre-season matches, and has made a positive impression on Red Devils supporters and teammates so far, with Victor Lindelof picking him out for praise.

United beat competition from Lyon to his signature, L’Equipe reported, and while the French side have now moved to sign a replacement, they are still smarting from the miss over Malacia.

Manager Peter Bosz is quoted by FCUpdate discussing the arrival of Nicolas Tagliafico from Ajax, admitting Malacia was his preference.

Still upset at missing out on Tyrell Malacia

Bosz explained that he still feels Malacia would have been the better addition for Lyon, had he not snubbed them for United.

He said of Tagliafico: “I am very happy that he has come”, before adding, “One is more for the short term. It is there immediately, has more experience. Malacia is younger, had more residual value in the long term and therefore might have been better for the club.”

Malacia is only 22, with Tagliafico seven years elder at 29. He does have plenty more experience, but Malacia is likely to prove a better investment.

The Dutch talent was a cheap signing too at just £13 million, and the early signs are that Malacia looks like a real bargain.

Malacia is competing with Luke Shaw for a starting spot at United and his pre-season performances show he has a legitimate chance of doing so.

It looks like Bosz and Lyon have good reason to be upset at missing out on the 22-year-old, with their loss United’s gain.

Dan is still wondering what would have happened if United had kept Juan Veron…
