Di’Shon Bernard is the newest player to sign on loan from Manchester United ahead of the 2021-22 season.

The young defender has joined Hull City in the championship on a season contract.

Bernard, 20, joined United in July 2017 and made his first-team debut against Astana in the Europa League in November 2019.

He also signed a new long-term contract before going on loan after being on loan with Salford City in League 2 last season.

Nice to have him

Hull boss Grant McCann is confident that Bernard will be a solid addition.

McCann told Hull’s official website, “Everyone knows we were in the right center-back market and we’ve been waiting patiently for Di’Shon.

“The fact that he has been with Manchester United’s first team for the past few weeks and has been part of their preparation for the season shows how much they appreciate him.

“After speaking to Michael Carrick and one or two other people at Man United and Salford, I feel like it’s a positive development for the boy.

“He is confident and has many qualities; he is fast, good at handling the ball, aggressive in his style of play, wants to play on the forefoot and likes to drive forward.

“We feel like we have a really good player and we look forward to working with him.”

Varane influences the defensive pecking order

Raphael Varane will join United and is expected to be the first choice alongside Harry Maguire.

That displaces everyone else in the pecking order. According to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Axel Tuanzebe will be loaned out.

Bernard is lower in the pecking order, so it makes sense to go on loan looking for game time.

The championship will be a big step up from the 2nd division and Bernard needs to impress McCann up close to get games in a challenging, physical league.
