Harry Maguire was sent off injured in Manchester United’s 3-1 away win at Aston Villa.

It was a rare sight that Maguire was unable to play in the league for 90 minutes. This was the first time since joining United.

While it has been withdrawn as a precaution, it must be assessed and given time to recover.

Maguire posted a message to supporters through his Instagram page saying he hoped it wasn’t serious.

United will have to do without Maguire this week

Maguire was replaced by Eric Bailly, who helped United watch the game.

Axel Tuanzebe was on the bench as well and it is likely that both players will face Leicester City on Tuesday with Victor Lindelof rested. This was likely already United’s full game plan.

It is preferable that United not even risk Maguire against Liverpool on Thursday but that would pose a problem as Bailly or Tuanzebe would have to play twice in three days and neither player has strong injury records.

Alternatives like Nemanja Matic or Scott McTominay playing center-backs could be considered, but given the lack of regular football for Tuanzebe, he will likely try desperately to play twice within three days if he gets the chance, provided he can keep up.

United’s top priority is getting Maguire fit for the Europa League final.

The team only needs one point against Leicester on Tuesday to secure a place in the top four.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told United’s website, “We need to look into this. It could be a couple of weeks, a couple of days – who knows. I’m not a doctor and we have to examine and scan him tomorrow. “

“It was his ankle, lower leg. I think the boy landed on him. So he twisted his ankle and got a punch. “
