Raphael Varane had his first full day as a Manchester United player on Monday.

After the Frenchman was dropped off at Carrington, he went to work and trained with new teammates.

Varane went straight to full training with his teammates, and one player in particular seemed very impressed.

Club captain Harry Maguire looked at Varane in awe in a shot posted by United on social media and was clearly impressed with the new signing and his new defensive partner.

Maguire spoke to the club website about Varane: “He is an exceptional player and he has proven it over many years and with the trophies he has won.

“He’s a real leader, a winner, and putting him on our defensive is really important to the options and to the competition so that everyone around him improves.

“We have some excellent defenders at this club and he comes into play. We have great international players and that will only be a plus for a team. He’s an exceptional player. “

The feeling seemed to be mutual and Varane told the club website he was impressed with what he saw of Maguire.

Varane said of Maguire and his English team-mate Luke Shaw: “I think they are very good players and I am very excited to be a new player on this team because there is a lot of talent.”

The pair could already be in the starting XI this weekend when United travel to Southampton. Varane will have to prove his fitness while Victor Lindelof will continue to fight for his corner. Eric Bailly is also back after returning to training on Monday.
