Bruno Fernandes and Portugal are out after a 1-0 loss to Belgium at Euro 2020.

While bitterly disappointing for the midfielder, it’s a huge plus from a Manchester United perspective.

Fernandes did not watch the tournament and started the last 16 games on the bench.

He came on as a substitute in the 55th minute and created two chances, but he’s not in top form and just played too much football last year.

This was his 85th game for club and country in the last 13 months. It’s just too much.

Now Fernandes can have a well-deserved vacation with his family and rest before the pre-season if he is allowed to return later.

He should have at least two weeks off before returning to Carrington, and that rest is needed.

The Portuguese international could have been active for another two weeks at Euro 2020 if his country had reached the final.

This means Fernandes will be in better shape at the start of the Premier League season on August 14 when United face Leeds at Old Trafford.

This international defeat is disappointing for Fernandes but ultimately it is in his best interests to rest now. It is what he needs.
