Manchester United hoped to warm up for the Europa League final with a fascinating performance at Old Trafford.

Instead, the team produced a poor, monotonous display that left more questions than answers.

Manchester United have to choose between Dean Henderson and David de Gea.

De Gea’s pick here might have indicated he was going to get the nod and it might make sense as he played the quarter-finals and the semi-finals.

He is now United’s “Cup goalkeeper” although Solskjaer has previously given up for big games without success.

De Gea’s experience likely gives him the edge over Henderson for such an important game. Winning the trophy would be the perfect way to sign out if he leaves in the summer.

Central midfield

United have played in big games with a midfield of Fred and Scott McTominay this season and that is the sure bet against Villarreal.

But dropping one of them and bringing Paul Pogba back would likely be a popular choice with followers.

Fighting Fulham on the left wing after a brilliant start, Pogba was unable to influence the game.

Bringing him back centrally at Fred or McTominay’s expense would open up a point of attack.

Injuries to both players against Fulham could speed up that decision.

The wings

If Pogba starts in a forward role, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to choose between Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

Greenwood are more effective on the right but it will be difficult to leave Rashford out.

Leaving Pogba out for Greenwood or Rashford would be a bold move that could cause him to walk away.

United have a tough dilemma here provided Edinson Cavani leads the line and not Greenwood.

The defence

Harry Maguire will do anything to get fit. At Old Trafford he was pictured on crutches again.

So United will have to choose between a half-fit Maguire or one of their substitutes.

If there is a replacement, who should it be? Eric Bailly or Axel Tuanzebe, who was a surprise starter against Fulham.

Neither Bailly nor Tuanzebe really convinced, and Lindelof has played poorly in the last two games as well. Maguire’s fitness could be crucial.
