With the restrictions approaching summer, the return of gigs, festivals and nightclubs is looming.
There are so many valuable and popular cultural institutions that make Manchester a special place. Whether it’s the independent venues that make up the thriving gig race track, or the festivals big and small that make the city its annual home, we’ve missed them dearly.
Thankfully there are quite a number of festivals and events coming back this year to bring the people of Manchester the parties they deserve after the various locks we’ve seen.

The Parklife Festival, which brings some of the greatest performers in the world’s most popular genres to Manchester for a weekend, makes a glorious return this year.
2020 should be their biggest year yet, and 2021 will be no exception as Dave had a huge, eclectic cast including Dave Thee Stallion, his only UK festival appearance of the year fresh from ‘WAP’ hit and grime, legend Skepta takes the stage .
Heaton Park participants can expect over 100 artists over the weekend, and it never gets boring. Parklife is the only place in Manchester that you can see big names so big it’s going to be one hell of a festival.
Moovin barn party
When: Saturday July 10th
Where: Whitebottom Farm, Stockport
Line-up: Congo Natty, Mr. Scruff, Norman Jay, General Levy, Graeme Park
Moovin Festival just couldn’t wait to be postponed in August to see everyone again. Instead, they decided to start a business early and get everyone to the party they deserve as soon as possible.
You have put together a list in which most of the names graced the festival in the past. That means old favorites like Mr Scruff are making a return.
For this particular party, they have planned extra stages, arranged all kinds of exciting performers, and even arranged some bonfires to sit by if your legs get a little wobbly. You can’t wait to see people again.
Manchester Psych Festival
When: Saturday 4th September
Where: Various venues, JA, Gorilla, Tanzhaus, 02 Ritz, Deaf Institute
Setup: stereo lab, dry cleaning, girls band, sheep theft, skull breaker, porridge radio
The Manchester Psych Festival brings some of the best psychedelic / indie bands to different locations in the city. This year is a fantastic opportunity to see some of Manchester’s best venues.
In addition to a range of talent, the festival has additional incentives such as art installations, DJ sets, and street food vendors that cater to all nutritional needs. It makes for the perfect mix of dance and culture.
The Manchester Psych Festival is an opportunity to get acquainted with some of the bands that could have big names in the years to come, as well as iconic bands like Stereolab. It’s a festival full of exciting discoveries.
Sounds of the city
When: Sunday 11th July – Sunday 26th September
Where: Catlefield Bowl
Lineup: DMAs, Dermot Kennedy, Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol, Hacienda Classical
Castlefield Bowl has hosted some phenomenal gigs through Sounds Of The City over the past few years. Legendary acts and Manchester legends like New Order have played before, and pop icons like Kylie.
The outdoor venue is one of the most unique places in Manchester, so it attracts some truly unique artists. This year’s program includes seasoned bands like Kaiser Chiefs and Snow Patrol. There will also be performances by huge new acts like DMA’s and Dermot Kennedy.
The Hacienda Classical will also take over a night and rework classic club music for a nostalgic and unique evening. Providing fun and memorable experiences, Sounds Of The City is a special series of gigs that have a popular reputation.

Manchester Pride is a real highlight in Manchester year after year and always attracts some big names and an even bigger party. It is confirmed that this year will take place in August, but the venue has yet to be announced.
However, it has announced most of the lineup for this year and features some phenomenal pop artists like Zara Larsson who released a brilliant album earlier this year. Annie Mac will be there to keep the best songs going and it will be a full day of good vibes.
A secret headliner has not yet been revealed and it won’t be until August 27th, the day before the music events begin! So keep your eyes peeled because Manchester Pride is sure to be more memorable this year than it has ever been.
Manchester Jazz Festival
When: Friday June 11th – Sunday June 13th
Where: Escape to Freight Island
Line-up: Camilla George, Nubiyan Twist, Yemi Bolatiwa, young pilgrims
This year the Manchester Jazz Festival is on its way to becoming a special new venue. Escape to Freight Island is located in Piccadilly and offers three different stages with exciting jazz acts of all kinds on the weekend.
The best part is that the festival is free! You can come to any of the venues as long as you reserve your table in advance, and you also have the flexibility to change the venue that you booked for throughout the day so you don’t miss out on seeing your favorite!
It will certainly have a relaxed atmosphere as you can reserve a table with some of your friends / family, enjoy some phenomenal jazz musicians, and indulge in some amazing food and drink.
