Manchester United conceded the second highest number of standard goals in the Premier League at 14 in 2020/21.

With even more goals conceded in cup competitions, including the Europa League final and the Carabao Cup semifinals, it was clear that the situation had to be addressed.

United is trying. The club website report United has hired Eric Ramsay as a specialized individual and standard coach.

Ramsay is one of the highest rated young coaches in the UK and comes from Chelsea’s U23.

reason to celebrate

United’s decision to address this issue is a welcome and potentially significant boost.

The response from the fan base was remarkable for such a reluctant attitude.

I didn’t even know Eric Ramsay existed 6 minutes ago, but I can now safely say that we will never lose again

United signed a standard coach today, Eric Ramsay!

Could be our main new signing this summer… We’re so bad at defending set pieces

I’m not saying it will bring us things as we still need better players, but very impressed with Ole getting into a standard cosch and thinking about the finer things

We’re happy to see United sign a first-team coach who specializes in set pieces, which was clearly our biggest weakness last season. #EricRamsay #MUFC

New standard trainer, do I hear?
Maguire comes for this golden boot

We actually hired a set-piece coach wow where

I can’t believe we actually hired a standard coach – just give us the title now.

Training Ground Guru reports Ramsay has been “highly regarded” at Chelsea and is the youngest Briton to receive a UEFA professional coach license.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on United’s website that he saw Ramsay as “innovative” and said he would take responsibility for set pieces.

The club deserves credit for trying something different and trying to solve a serious problem.

United are expected to step up their defense again this summer with the possible addition of Raphael Varane. The MEN report that the club is confident of making a deal.

Eric Ramsay’s coaching change could be just as important in its own way and we should expect the team to be much more solid this season.

With the difference between success and failure so small in the 2020/21 season, hiring a coach like Ramsay could help overturn the balance for winning silver coins. It’s part of the puzzle that United needed to get right.
