Cristiano Ronaldo’s streak in three consecutive games since his return to Manchester United has come to an end.

And so did his unbeaten record against Aston Villa when the away team won 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo sent a message in response to the loss. He wants to fix the situation quickly.

United’s miserable day was compounded by the fact that Bruno Fernandes missed an added-time penalty.

Ronaldo stepped aside to leave Fernandes. He may not do that next time.

The defeat was a major blow to United as the unbeaten start of the season ended in the sixth game.

United had scored nine goals in their first two league games this season before there was a gap here.

The rooms opened early in the game and United looked bright at times but couldn’t take advantage of it.

Fernandes’ missed penalty to equalize added salt to the wound and made a miserable day worse when the team lost Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire to injury.

Villarreal at home are next and this may not be a fun evening given the last two home games. United are under pressure and need leaders like Ronaldo.
