The former Ajax manager will be aiming to get his Manchester United tenure off to a winning and emphatic start.

The Reds will be keen to exercise the demons of May’s chastening 4-0 defeat to Graham Potter’s Seagulls at the Amex Stadium in Ralf Rangnick’s penultimate game in interim charge.

Like Ten Hag has repeated since taking the Old Trafford hot seat, the 52-year-old is looking forwards not backwards and last season’s turbulent campaign is nothing but painful history.

There is a new dawn at the Theater of Dreams and the arrival of Ten Hag and an impressive pre-season has brought cause for optimism.

The two-time Eredivisie winner hands debuts to two of his summer signings Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen who both start against Brighton.

Jadon Sancho is fit enough to start after recovering from an illness and with Anthony Martial missing the Premier League opener – Ten Hag has opted not to start Cristiano Ronaldo, which could see us play with a false number nine.

The 37-year-old has only played 45 minutes of pre-season football which came in last Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano.

Ronaldo scored the opener when United beat Brighton 2-0 at the Theater of Dreams back in February.

If the Reds beat Brighton by the same scoreline the Seagulls emphatically swept us aside three months ago then we will go straight to the Premier League summit.
