Manchester United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho went pretty much as we expected before the summer.

A lot of speculation and so far no concrete developments. It’s like watching a repeat of summer 2020 all over again. (Somebody is keeping Harry Maguire away from Greece!)

However, we know United are taking their time moving Sancho and there is a risk that more efficient teams could make it even more difficult.

So far, no rival club have made big offers for Sancho, who allegedly favor United (via The Athletic), but Chelsea are reportedly keen to sign Erling Haaland.

Dortmund has made it very clear that they do not want to sell Haaland this summer, Sancho can go instead.

It seems that Roman Abramovich is unwilling to take a “no” for an answer.

Fueled by Chelsea’s Champions League success, Chelsea are keen to add Haaland at any cost.

The Mail report Dortmund wants to consider 200 million euros for a sale, a fee of 172 million pounds. And Chelsea are still plowing.

Re: Erling Haaland

Chelsea are working hard to get Erling Haaland.
He is considered the “missing” player who will challenge them for the PL title next season.
Fee very high but trust that this can be resolved.
The main obstacle could be the wage structure at Chelsea

United would be affected

Chelsea’s inquiries seem like the kind of long-range shot worth considering at the start of the transfer window. But we know Roman Abramovich can afford it, and FFP is a joke at this point after City went unpunished.

Dortmund don’t want to sell, but £ 172m is the kind of money too good to turn down considering Haaland’s release clause is £ 66m next summer.

Dortmund have suffered a financial blow by failing to sell Jadon Sancho last summer and will have to do so at a lower price this year, Sport1 reports. The opposite of that is that Sancho helped them win the German Cup, so they can’t mind.

That is the dilemma they are facing now, be it to cash in mega-money at Haaland or keep him to try and win another season with him before his inevitable exit.

United could have a chance at Haaland in 2022 to waive their release clause. There’s no scenario United will pay this summer.

If Sancho is at the club next season, United may have a chance to get Haaland to choose Old Trafford.

But if Chelsea carry on now and pay Haaland’s transfer fee this summer, Sancho’s situation will change completely.

Dortmund will hardly have to sell it financially and will not have to replace two big players in one window and undertake a complete renovation.

You can’t blame Chelsea for trying to grab Haaland and luckily for United they are likely to fail. But in one scenario where they succeed, United’s pursuit of Sancho takes a big hit.

It’s just one more reason United needs to get a deal on for Sancho ASAP to prevent unexpected complications that ruin the big money exchange.
