This autumn a very special collection of unique paintings will be exhibited at the Whitworth.

The collection of 10 unique paintings brings together areas of Manchester’s vibrant history, culture and community. Each piece showcases the city’s famous skyline with the iconic worker bee as the main attraction.

The exhibition will encapsulate the spirit of Manchester, as well as highlighting the importance of art in the healing process. The paintings will subsequently be sold/ auctioned following the exhibition with all proceeds from the sale going to Maggie’s Manchester to support people living with cancer.

Each work of art is original, and no prints will be available except for ‘Bee There’ which captures the essence and beauty of the Maggie’s Centre. ‘Bee There’ will not be auctioned and instead have pride of place in the center itself.

The collection was commissioned by Maggie’s Board Member Margo Cornish with the help of fellow board members.

Margo Cornish, Maggie’s Board Member said:

“We are thrilled to be working with Justin a local, up and coming talented artist. Art therapy plays a huge part in our creative programs at Maggie’s, helping our visitors work through emotions, as well as providing a sense of wellbeing and relaxation.

All the money raised by the auction will go directly to our center next to the Christie Hospital so we can continue this valuable support.”

– Alistair Hudson, Director, The Whitworth, The University of Manchester said:

“Maggie’s and the Whitworth have a long-standing relationship, for many years working together with a shared understanding of the importance of art and environment in how we care for people. As an institution founded to promote good health and social wellbeing, we are extremely honored to be able to collaborate with Maggie’s on this project to raise funds for such a vital cause.”

While Justin Eagleton, Artist said

“As a born and bred Mancunian artist with a passion for supporting local people and community projects it is my pleasure to be collaborating with both Maggie’s and The Whitworth on this unique collection of art. Centered around Manchester culture, history, and diversity I have created 10 individual mixed-media canvases which for me encompass this great city I love and call home. I am humbled to be able to make a difference to the great work Maggie’s do in supporting those affected by cancer with the auction of these personal artworks.”
