Manchester United’s most famous Swedish player of all time is beyond question. He may have only played 53 times for the Red Devils, but his memories of his magic will last a long time.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic played in when United won the League Cup and (despite missing the final) the Europa League. In total, he scored 29 times in 53 games before moving on.

He continued the pattern of Swedish strikers with short but successful appearances at Old Trafford.

Before Zlatan’s magic came Henrik Larsson’s. He stayed even shorter, but his three goals in 13 games only told half the story.

Larsson’s emergency loan was a masterpiece by Sir Alex Ferguson, and the player has spoken of his regret not to stay at Old Trafford any longer.

Of course, United have another Swede in their ranks with Victor Lindelof. But the center-back is no longer the first choice and will fall into the pecking order upon Raphael Varane’s return.

Then there is an incredibly exciting youngster named Anthony Elanga. In time, he could become United’s greatest Swedish player.

That is a bold statement in the face of some who have come before him. But Elanga has everything in his locker to be a United superstar

The 19-year-old has been making waves behind the scenes at United for some time. With four goals in four U23 games this season – and five out of five for Sweden’s U21s – there are no limits.

Star in the making

If United fans needed any more evidence, Elanga didn’t score until his second Premier League game last season. He was also the standout pre-season player.

Rumor has it that virtually every championship club has asked about the prospect of loaning the teenager out this year.

That’s no surprise given his talent. Not even the fact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said no.

Elanga may be fighting for playing time in the short term, but he will only benefit from training alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

Originally a winger who seamlessly transitioned into the role of center forward, Elanga is arguably United’s next big thing.

Ibrahimovic and Larsson may have had short stays at United. But Elanga could be here for a decade or more. During this time, expect him to surpass them both in the eyes of Old Trafford believers.
