After leaving Manchester United, Angel Gomes made time to find a new club.

When he finally did, his choice of French team Lille surprised some. But his decision is looking wiser every week.

Gomes is currently on loan at Boavista. But next season he could play for the reigning Ligue 1 champions.

Lille is at the top of their table right now and Gomes knew exactly what he was doing when he put pen to paper.

When the attacking midfielder’s United contract expired, there was talk of going to another superpower. Instead, he took his time and decided on a team where he can blossom into the star he is expected to become.

Gomes could have stayed with United for the long term. Instead, he was brave enough to turn down a new contract at Old Trafford and go to new pastures.

Given how difficult it is for the likes of Donny van de Beek and Juan Mata to get a game at United these days, Gome’s decision seems wise.

Fine form and smart decisions

In Portugal he has played 27 times, scored six goals and provided six more.

It’s the kind of shape that will inspire his new parents’ club for the future.

You have signed a player with the world at his feet.

As for the United fans who have questioned Gomes’ election, the fact that he could return to the reigning champions could soon silence those doubts.

His career is only just beginning at the age of 20. And as talented as the midfielder is, he seems to be making the right decisions.

At first glance, it seemed strange to leave United for Lille. Especially when you consider how long Gomes was with the Red Devils and how highly he is rated. But in reflection it could be the genesis of him.
