Amazon is launching the first live virtual tours of its fulfillment centers in the UK.
Experienced tour guides from seven fulfillment centers take visitors live to the various stations at which a product passes on Amazon.
If you’ve ever wondered how your Amazon order gets to your home, you can register for a live, virtual tour of a fulfillment center for free. You have the opportunity to make your tour unique by asking questions and interacting live with the guides.
Tour guides from seven Amazon UK fulfillment centers – Manchester, Rugeley, Tilbury, Peterborough, Doncaster, Dunstable and Dunfermline – lead guests through Amazon’s huge fulfillment centers, where employees pick up, package and ship customer orders.
Visitors will see some of the great technology and people involved in Amazon’s operations in the UK. The virtual tours replace personal tours that were interrupted at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Neil Travis, Amazon UK Regional Director, said, “We stopped public tours of our fulfillment centers when the pandemic broke out, but the demand for the visits is still there. I am happy to announce that we have developed this virtual solution. Now people from all over the UK – from all over the world – can sign up for a live virtual tour and take a look behind the scenes at Amazon from the comfort of their own sofa. “
Visitors can sign up for a free tour here, and the hour-long experience also includes the opportunity to ask questions to the tour guides.
“In 2019, the last full year of running personal public tours at our fulfillment centers in the UK, we welcomed more than 55,000 guests curious about what goes on behind the scenes and the safe modern work environment we offer. We have included members from MENSA, the armed forces, logistics professionals and the scouting organization, ”added Neil.
“We were also used as a training area for special assistance dogs, and a guest came from the Philippines to see some of our fulfillment centers. We even saw someone mark their wedding day with a tour – but as fascinating as the tours are, I’m not sure if they would be the perfect anniversary gift for any couple! “
