The 19-year-old was given a straight red card after missing his kick and then bringing down Victor Akinwale which was a clear professional foul.

Fish, who spent time on loan at Stockport County last season, was visibly annoyed and upset by his glaring error which came in his first appearance under the club’s new manager.

The centre-back was flown to Australia as a replacement for Axel Tuanzebe, who returned to England.

Fish signed a new contract with United at the end of June, which runs to 2025. This will be his first pre-season tour.

He made his senior Manchester United debut on the last day of the 2020-21 season when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer introduced him as a late substitute against Wolves.

Despite United riding a wave of positivity after beating Crystal Palace 3-1, which was our third consecutive win under the club’s six manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, Amad shared a post on his Instagram story, displaying a love heart emoji with him in a picture of a crestfallen fish.

The defender will bounce back from his lapse of concentration and with teammates like Amad around him, he’ll no doubt be targeting further opportunities to impress under the former Ajax manager.

Ten Hag opted to give Fish a chance alongside makeshift centre-back Alex Telles instead of bringing Eric Bailly off the bench.
