The Premier League finally returns tomorrow, with Manchester United kicking off their season on Saturday.

That means it’s time for experts to make their predictions about how United will play out in 2021/22.

BBC Sport asked 20 of their experts to choose who they thought would win the title and the order of the top four.

Title challenge on the cards?

None of the experts believe United will win the league this season.

Only two, former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha and former England women’s international, have given United a tip to match last season’s success and finish second.

However, each of them expect United to finish in the top four.

And Martin Keown said he wouldn’t be surprised if United left their 21st title.

“I’m fourth behind United, but this title race is more open than it will ever be,” he said.

“You made two brilliant new signings and you mean business.

“I’m only picking this order because I was asked – and if they won, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

Experts got it wrong last season

Let’s take a look back at how accurate the BBC’s predictions were last season.

Absolutely none of the 24 experts who were asked back before the start of the 2020/21 season expected United to finish second.

She was 17 behind for fourth place; nine think we will end up there this year.

United never write off

It’s never a very good idea to write United off.

We finished second last season and made two big signings to improve the first team.

Solskjaer would enjoy proving the opposite to the critics as a player and he would love to do that again this season.

He admitted last week that United are one of four teams to win the Premier League this season and it is now up to him and his players to make this year’s title challenge longer than last season.
